White Sox vs. Red Sox — July 9, 1988 (game 1)

My brother-in-law Jonathan came up for a week-long visit with his friend Jason. Jim Matheson and I took them to their first Major League baseball game(s) — a White Sox/Red Sox double-header at Comiskey Park.

We drove to Chicago in the morning and visited Lincoln Park Zoo (that’s Jason, me and Jim at the zoo) and Ed Devevic’s restaurant.

The first game began at 3:00. Our seats were in the lower deck of the left-field bleachers, just one row back from the field. The Sox left fielder, Gary Redus, spent about seven hours 20 feet in front of us.

When the game started, Jonathan and Jason were rather bored. But when Dan Pasqua, Greg Walker and Daryl Boston of the White Sox hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, they got into the swing of things. The White Sox won the first game 8-7.
