Gillespie County Safety Rest Area — Ranch Road 1 — Stonewall, Texas

After touring LBJ’s ranch, I cut through a roadside rest area back to the main road. As I paused to pull out on the highway, I noticed a swarm of butterflies flitting around the flowers that were planted by the sign. I backed up and parked. There were several species zipping around, and it was tough to decide which to concentrate on. I decided to photograph the one that happened to land where I could get a picture — and it turned out to be a Gulf Fritillary.
