The last time we went to Devil’s Den, five of us spent a day hiking the 15-mile Butterfield Trail. There was some talk about repeating that adventure on this trip, but somehow we never got around to it. Instead, seven of us hiked into the most scenic area on the trail, then hiked back out — with some side trips.
We were feeling adventurous, and on two occasions left the trails and explored other areas of the valley. It was a warm day, and we were very aware of the possibility of snakes. We didn’t see any, but we sure went where we would have gone if we had been looking for them. This was some beautiful and rugged country.
