McNaughton, Wisconsin — junction of Fort Wilderness and Spider Lake Roads
Things were really getting crowded at the house. On this morning, the line for the bathroom was 12 miles long. Dave Williams, my old roommate from Moody, and I went over to Fort Wilderness to take showers. We were walking back to the house and had just reached the junction of Spider Lake Road when this raven flew overhead, croaking loudly. It passed so close to us that I could hear its wings beating.
I had made the comment earlier in the week that I wasn’t going to get married until I had 100 birds on my life list. When I returned to the house, I told everyone that all was well. We could go through with the wedding. I had seen my 100th bird. My mother-in-law-to-be wasn’t amused.
