Barrington, Illinois — Crabtree Nature Center

At this time, I was attending Trinity College and working at Lutheran General Hospital as a librarian two days a week.  This left me with free time after school on the other days.

I was walking down the path from the visitor center toward Crabtree Lake.  I saw the Scarlet Tanager catching a bug in mid-air.  It landed in the top of a tall oak in the meadow along the path and perched there until it was scared off by a group of people walking by.
