Bird #255 — Curve-billed Thrasher

toxostoma (from toxon, bow, and stema, bill) curvirostre (from curvus, curved, and rostrum, beak)

Saturday, March 31, 1984 — 9:45 am

Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Arizona

Almost as soon as we walked through the gate into the zoo/park, I spotted a Curve-billed Thrasher on top of a saguaro cactus singing “per-wheet.”

The trip to Arizona was our 1984 Christmas present from my parents. That’s why there’s a ribbon on the photo — Mom gave it to us at Christmas to remind us of the trip. That’s my Dad in the foreground, working on one of his wood carvings as he walks.
