Bird #261 — Verdin

auriparus (from aurum, gold, and parus, titmouse) flaviceps (from flavus, tawny, and caput, head)

I spotted the Verdin foraging in the mesquite near the aviary. I don’t think I actually watched this bird for 10 minutes.  I had a tendency to overestimate the length of my sightings in those days, and too much time has gone by for me to acurately remember.  My companions went into the aviary while I remained outside to get a good look at the Verdin.  I decided a bird in the wild was worth a whole bunch in a cage.
