Friday Morning

When I checked into the motel, the woman behind the desk told me about all the sights in the area. She mentioned two small waterfalls on the hill behind the building and said, “If you are in a hurry, you can walk to both of them and be back in a half hour.”

On Friday morning, I woke up around 6:00. I decided that was as good a time as any to take the hike. It was a stunning morning. Here’s the view of Munising from our motel at 6:15.

The trail to the falls wasn’t long, but it was steep and muddy. It led into narrow wooded canyons where the light was soft. I was all alone as I moved from place to place taking photos from different angles. This is Memorial Falls.

I hiked out of that canyon and into another one, to Tannery Falls. This falls was larger, but somehow more difficult to photograph.
