Interlude

On the way back to our campsite after the morning hike, I heard a Pileated Woodpecker calling in the woods along the road. As soon as we parked, I grabbed my binoculars and went looking. Within in 20 minutes I discovered a pair of them foraging through the trees.

The total list of birds I saw in the park during our three-day stay (the ones in red were new for the year):

  4. Brown Creeper
  5. Carolina Chickadee
  6. Carolina Wren
  7. Dark-eyed Junco
  8. Hairy Woodpecker
  9. Hermit Thrush
  10. Northern Cardinal
  11. Northern Flicker
  12. Pileated Woodpecker
  13. Red-bellied Woodpecker
  14. Tufted Titmouse
  15. Turkey Vulture (more than 80 can be seen on the right, and that was only part of the flock)
  16. White-breasted Nuthatch
  17. White-Throated Sparrow
  18. Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
  19. Yellow-rumped Warbler
