Notes:The Moonstone is a cleverly contrived tale of a stolen Indian diamond that becomes the dangerous inheritance of Rachel Vendier. When the incredible diamond is stolen for the second time, the seemingly simple case becomes a masterpiece of mystery and suspense.

COMMENTS — Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins met on Wednesday 12 March 1851 at the house of John Forster, later to be Dickens' first biographer. From that day until he died in 1870, Collins was Dickens' friend, confidante, and collaborator. They dined together, drank together, traveled together, grew beards together, went to plays together, wrote together, worked together and walked the streets in London and Paris together. And they’re both dead.

Reviews for The Moonstone

Review - Moonstone, The

The mystery and how it was solved was fun. The way the story was told was forced. The middle of the book, after the investigation breaks down and everyone departs the scene and until Franklin renews the investigation, is dull. The long section — written by Miss Clark — was awful. She goes on and on explaining how wonderful Godfrey is and how cheap Rachel is while trying to convert everyone to her extremely superficial but very strict brand of Christianity. Remove that section and the book becomes an 8.
