| Notes: | A column of Legionaires finds one of their fortresses manned by dead men. It looks like one of his own troops killed the sergeant. Who could have done it? A flashback then unravels the mystery of the three English Geste brothers. After confessing to jewel theft they enlist in the French Foreign Legion. Sent to North Africa, the brothers encounter a tyrannical sergeant and the tale unfolds. COMMENTS — There are two sequels, Beau Ideal and Beau Sabreur. Percival Christopher Wren based the stories on his own experiences in the French Foreign Legion. He was a descendent of Sir Christopher Wren, the 18th-century architect who designed St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. |
