One very good point Anderson makes is that Herod, when the wise men asked him about the birth of the Messiah, turned to the Sanhedrin who told him the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Herod immediately ordered the death of all children born in that town, proving that he and the Sanhedrin, unlike so many Christians these days, didn't spiritualize Old Testament prophecies.
