Review - Grace
Deep, thorough and excellent. Chafer starts with a definition of grace, explains why and how it differs from law and explores how we should live in light of it. I read several studies on the subject of grace recently, but this book took me deeper and taught me things I hadn't seen before.
Here's Chafer's opening premise: The word grace discloses not only the boundless goodness and kindness of God toward man, but reaches far beyond and indicates the supreme motive which actuated God in the creation, preservation and consummation of the universe.
The book rambles a bit near the end in a long section on the Sabbath, but apart from that it was a great book. Chafer isn't a light read — I found myself rereading a lot of paragraphs, but the extra time was worth the effort.
