Review - Complete Peanuts 1953 to 1954, The

All of Charles Schulz’s Peanuts comic strips from 1953 to 1954. Pig Pen and a girl character named Charlotte Braun are introduced. Charlotte’s character always talks in a really loud voice. I don’t remember seeing her before.

The original artwork was lost on some of these early strips, so the book includes photocopies or tracings from old newspaper archives. One Sunday strip, from May 3, 1953 only exists in two newspaper archives, both of which chop off the top panel, so that one-third of the original has been lost. There’s a cleverness and simplicity to Schulz’s work that really appeals to me. I enjoy all the strips, but every so often, one really cracks me up.
