Notes:An autobiographical novel about Paul Morel, a self-absorbed young man who was emotionally attached to his mother. He met Miriam Lievers, a beautiful young girl who challanged him, but Paul didn't want to have to worry about her needs, only his own, so he ditched her. He took up with Clara Dawes, an older, married woman with whom he could have sex without emotional attachment. When his mother died, Paul broke off with Clara, but still refused to marry Miriam because he just wanted to be mothered.

Review - Sons and Lovers

A long, boring story about an unlikeable creep. After reading the book, I don't like D.H. Lawrence at all, at all. In addition, the book was horribly written — like a first draft without editing. There were endless repetitions, long pointless stretches about minor characters and other characters that just popped in for a moment to suit a lazy author's need. The situation calls for a dog? Fine, the family has a dog. But the dog is never metioned before or after that scene. Yuk.
