Notes:Hans Castorp, an engineer just out of college, visits his cousin Joachim Ziemssen at a sanitorium in the mountains. The visit is only supposed to last three weeks. He settles in and becomes acquainted with the other inhabitants.

That's how far I read when I quit. I looked on the Internet and saw that the remainin 700 pages dealt with Hans meeting residents who supposedly represent the various types of people in Europe before WWII. Hans' departure is repeatedly delayed — it turns out that he has tuberculosis. At the end of seven years, the war begins, Hans joins up and probably dies.

Review - Magic Mountain, The

I read 64 boring pages of young Hans wandering about the sanitorium having pointless discussions with pointless people. There was no plot as such, but there were a lot of descriptions of rooms and clothing that had nothing to do with the story. I give a book at least 50 pages to capture my attention. This one failed.
