Notes:Marlowe helps his friend Terry escape to Mexico after Terry is accused of murdering his wife. Marlowe doesn't think he did it, and he doesn't believe it when he hears Terry confessed and committed suicide. Soon he is asked to take on another case—to keep a writer named Wade sober enough to write. He declines the case but gets to know Wade and his wife Eileen anyway. Wade also supposedly commits suicide, but Marlowe doesn't believe that either. He investigates and figures out that Eileen killed both her husband and Terry's wife because they were having an affair. Marlowe sends out feelers and eventually proves that Terry faked his suicide.

Review - Long Goodbye, The

Well-written, and it kept my interest, but the way Marlowe's two cases just happened to connect was a bit of a reach, and apart from Marlowe himself, there weren't really any likable characters.
