| Notes: | Gaston de Luynes is an out-of luck soldier who is tasked by Cardinal Mazarin to guard his nephew Andrea. The Cardinal plans to marry Andrea to Yvonne de Canaples, a noblewoman, for political gain. When Gaston allows Andrea to get drunk, he is dismissed from service. But Andrea likes Gaston and invites him to come with him to the Canaples' estate. Andrea falls in love, not with Yvonne, but with her younger sister, which suits Gaston because he himself is in love with Yvonne. There's much sword-fighting and dastardly-doings, a plot to kidnap Yvonne, several attempts on Gaston's live, a plot against the Cardinal, all just to add some swashbuckling. Yvonne first despises Gaston, then falls for him. There's a last-minute misunderstanding, of course, but they end up together. Gaston, meanwhile, receiving an unexpected inheritance that makes him worthy of Yvonne. |
