It was a solid 8 for most of the book, but the bit about the tent show and the fire and the flat ending knocked it down.

| Notes: | Drago is a wealthy stock broker who had a nervous breakdown and went to rest at a sanitarium. There he met the Colonel, whose family had had him committed because he lacked inhibitions. They become friends, and Drago helps the Colonel escape. The meet Priscilla, a young dancer, who finds out Drago has money and wants to snare him. They also meet Penguin, another young woman who operates a carnival booth selling lingerie. She asks Drago watch her booth, which gets him arrested when the Colonel causes a fuss. Penguin breaks them out of jail and they join her on the road, traveling from town to town. In time, they decide to make a big show of it, offering a fashion show along with the sales. Drago figures out Priscilla's scheme and dumps her. And even though Penguin is an uneducated orphan, Drago falls for her. It all ends when the Colonel burns down the show for fun and recommits himself to a sanitarium. Drago and Penguin get married. |
