A Flying Yorkshireman and Turnip's Blood were OK. The others didn't do a lot for me.

Season of Celebration by Albert Maltz — Several characters spend New Years Eve in a flophouse and contemplate their failed lives. Turnip's Blood by Rachel Maddux — a widower befriends a young woman who enjoys simple things without ambition. She joins the circus and is injured, so he marries her to take care of her. The Song the Summer Evening Sings — A coming-of-age story about a boy who suddenly realizes that his father is a failure. |
