Review - South Pacific
A musical about a U.S. Army nurse who falls for a older French planter on a Pacific island during the war. When she finds out he was formerly married to a Polynesian girl, she turns him down. He goes behind enemy lines to spy and when she finds out he's in danger, she changes her mind. When he returns, they marry.
There's also a story about an American officer who falls for a girl from Tonga, but in 1958, I guess they still couldn't handle that, so he dies when he goes behind enemy lines with the Frenchman.
It would have been not too bad if it had stuck to the nurse/Frenchman story, but the bit with the American officer was just weird, as was the bizarre color changes that kept happening all through the movie.
