Description:Nick Charles (Dick Powell) is a former detective living off his wife's money and doing a lot of drinking. (I don't think there's a scene in the movie in which he doesn't have a drink in his hands.) When Clyde Wynant, an old acquaintance disappears, Nick's wife, Nora (Myrna Loy) talks him into taking on the case. It turns out that Wynant's girlfriend was stealing money from him. When she is found murdered, the cops think Clyde did it. Nick isn't so sure and in the course of his investigation finds Clyde's body, long dead. To solve the case, Nick and Nora invite everyone involved to a dinner party. Nick gets Clyde’s ex-wife to admit Clyde’s lawyer paid her to lie, proving the lawyer committed the murders.

Reviews for The Thin Man

Review - Thin Man, The

The Thin Man was a rather strange movie. On the one hand was the case, with people getting knocked off every few minutes. On the other hand, Nick and Nora's marriage was a comedy, with smart remarks and pratfalls and a stupid dog. It's the exchange of dialogue between William Powell and Myrna Loy that has given the movie it reputation. I laughed from time to time. Sal found it even funnier than I did.
