Review - Perfect Score, The

Six high-school students decide to steal the answers to the SAT test because their futures are too important to be decided by a biased test. They work out a plan and break into the headquarters building, only to find that the answers are protected by multiple layers of code. But they have the questions and together are able to figure out all the answers. When the are leaving the building, a security guard comes by and catches one of them, Matty, who is arrested. The others get way. When the day of the test arrives, they all decide not to cheat and, of course, all manage to pass the test with the grades they need. The students are as follows:

Anna — Second-brightest student in her class, but bombed her first attempt at the SAT because one of the questions got her dreaming. Her mother and father are pushing her to go to Brown. She decides to rebel against her parents, doesn’t take the SAT the second time, tours Europe, then comes back and hangs with Kyle.

Kyle — Needs a higher score to get to Cornell to study architecture, a lifelong dream. He’s the mastermind of the theft plot. He doesn’t get into Cornell but studies architecture at another college and hangs with Anna.

Matty — Needs a high score to get to the college where his girlfriend goes. But she’s rooming with another guy and won’t return his calls. During the plot, he falls for Francesca and gives himself up to keep her out of trouble. She bails him out of jail, and he goes into acting.

Francesca — A rich brain who doesn’t need to retake the test. Her father owns the building they break into. She’s upset with him because he brings home a string of young girls to sleep with. She falls for Matty.

Darius — Star basketball player who needs to score a 900 to play at the college he wants. His stern mother is riding him to have an option beside basketball. He turns out to be a math wiz and decides to take the test without cheating and makes the score he needs.

Roy — School dope head who failed all his classes and does drugs. He goes along with the plot because he heard about it and thought it was something to do. But Darius’ mother finds out about him and takes over, convincing him to quit drugs and get his high-school equivalent.

A rather pointless movie that never found its footing. There really isn’t any believable bonding between the kids, their characters never come alive and their decisions not to cheat at the end don’t make a lot of sense. It had some laughs.
