Review - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Captain Jack Sparrow is being pursued by Davy Jones. Sparrow needs to find the key to the chest where Jones keeps his heart. Will and Elizabeth’s marriage has been stopped by a pompous duke who wants the heart. He blackmails Will to get the key from Sparrow. In the end, Sparrow ends up inside the giant squid that Jones controls. Will and Elizabeth determine to try to save him with the help of Captain Barbarossa. Norrington has grabbed Jones’ heart and given it to the Duke. The plot was overly-complicated, so I’ll quit here.
Perhaps if it didn't have the first movie to live up to it would have seemed better but I don't know. It was too long and seemed to drag. It was more violent — rather graphically so in some places. It wasn't nearly as funny. And it seemed to have much the same plot as the earlier movie somehow.
Having said all that, there were some great moments. I enjoyed the scene with the sword fight on the wheel, however ridiculously implausible it may have been. The special effects were impressive. Although I knew I was watching computer animation throughout, there wasn't a single moment when it was blatantly obvious. I gave it a 6.
Liked it much better the second time when I watched all three movies in a row.
