Review - Primer

Two buddies, Aaron and Abe build a time machine in their garage. At first, they just use it to go back and find out stock figures. Then each takes the experiment in different directions. The movie got really hard to follow at the end, but I think Aaron went back to keep some guy from shooting everyone at a birthday party. Abe went back and somehow got his girlfriend’s father into a coma.

Katie Palmer recommended this to me. The movie was shot in a garage for $7,000. There’s a fine line between being clever and just thinking you’re being clever. I think this movie may have crossed the line. The production values were pretty poor, and the acting was also. After all, the machine doesn’t work in real life or the guys who made it would have spent more than $7,000 on it. I can imagine a conversation like this between the guys who made the movie.

1st guy — Let’s make a movie about a time machine, but instead of just inventing one, we’ll show how we did it so we’ll be the only movie about a time machine that really works.

2nd guy — But in every movie, the time machine really works.

1st guy — Yea, but in our movie, the time machine will really, really work.

I gave them a 5 for trying.
