Review - Scorched
Three tellers at a small southwestern bank all decide to rob it on the same weekend.
Sheila’s boyfriend, Rick the bank manager, has just dumped her. She talks her new boyfriend, a fireman, into helping her rob the atm machines. She knows this will get Rick fired because he is supposed to change the security codes periodically, but doesn’t.
Woods has a vendetta against Mr. Merchant, a rich client, and decides to rob his safety deposit box. First he has to break into Merchant’s house and get his key from the collar of his feisty dog. He’s about to get caught when two people (Shmally and Doleman) show up to egg Merchant’s house. Merchant chases them off with a shotgun, which allows Woods to get the key and escape.
Stu dreams up a get-rich-quick scheme and tells it to his buddy Max who then talks Stu into trying it. They take the money from the bank’s vault on Friday night, go to Vegas, bet it all in hopes of winning big, then replacing the original amount in the bank and getting away with the winnings. It all works as planned.
Meanwhile, Doleman is a loser who keeps getting fired from jobs. His girlfriend, Shmally talks him into trying for a job at the bank, and he is hired. He shows up on Monday morning just after robbery is discovered. Rick tells him he isn’t wanted, but then Rick is fired. He tries to turn over his job to each of the tellers in turn, but they all quit, so Doleman gets the job as manager.
It was cute, with a lot of overlap in the plots and some good comic timing, but it wasn’t highly memorable.
