Review - Son of the Pink Panther
Princess Yasmin has been kidnapped. The only witness who can identify the kidnappers is Gendarme Jacques Gambrelli. Commissioner Dreyfus is forces to turn to him for help, even after he finds out from Gambrelli’s mother that Gambrelli is the son of Clouseau. (She and Clouseau had a brief fling in A Shot in the Dark, although the actress that portrayed her played a different role in The Pink Panther.) Dreyfus falls in love with Gambrelli’s mother (and marries her at the end of the movie). When he is incapacitated, he is forced to promote Gambrelli, who takes his father’s name. He tracks the kidnappers and is captured. Imprisoned with the Princess, the two improbably fall in love. The Princess is taken to the desert. Gambrelli follows and bumbles his way through her rescue.
• From IMDB — The character of Maria Gambrelli, played here by Claudia Cardinale (who appeared as Princess Dala in the original Pink Panther (1964), originally appeared in A Shot in the Dark (1964), played by Elke Sommer.
It was slapstick and not generally funny, although there were a few mildly amusing moments.
