Description:Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) is an IRS agent sent to audit the accounts of baker Ana Pascal (Maggie Gyllenhaal). He suddenly hears a voice narrating his life. He's annoyed — and then he hears of his impending death. He seeks out literature professor Jules Hilbert (Dustin Hoffman) who figures out that Harold is a character in a novel. He suggests that Harold make it the book he wants, so Harold takes up the guitar and begins to date Ana. Then he hears the voice of novelist Karen Eiffel (Emma Thompson) and realizes he's in her book. He tracks her down and asks her not to kill him. She gives him the almost-finished book to read and he realizes that the book is a classic and he has to die. Karen, torn by having to kill a character that is willing to die for literature, rewrites the ending to have Harold injured in an accident when he's hit by a bus saving a boy's life. It doesn't make for as good a book, but Karen decides it's good enough.

Review - Stranger Than Fiction

Compelling. A very interesting look at writing and story. The plot doesn't exactly fly by, but it kept my attention throughout and I found myself rooting for Harold. Will Ferrell impresses with a very low-key performance very different from his usual roles.
