Review - Tess
Well acted. Kinski was great as Tess. Both the the men were scum, but that's how they were supposed to be viewed. The settings and scenery were beautiful.

| Description: | The Durbeyfields are a poor family in England. When the father discovers that they're descendants of the titled d'Urbervilles, he sends his oldest daughter, Tess (Nastassja Kinski) off to the family estate in hopes of getting money. It turns out the d'Urbervilles bought the title and are no relation, but that doesn't keep son Alec from raping Tess. She goes home and has his child, but the boy dies in infancy. Tess goes out to find work at a dairy. She meets Angel (Peter Firth) and they fall in love. She tells Angel about her past in a letter, and when he doesn't respond, she thinks all is OK and marries him. But then she finds he didn't see the letter and confesses. He can't bear the though and leaves for South America. Tess's fortunes sink lower and lower. Her father dies and her family is homeless. Alec shows back up and forces his way back into her life by preventing her family from finding a home unless Tess goes back with him. She lives as his mistress. But when Angel shows back up, Tess kills Alec and fleas with Angel. They have one night together before the police catch up with them at Stonehenge. Tess is hung for murder. |
