Review - Third Wheel, The
Stanley is in love with Diana at the office but is afraid to ask her out. When she finally breaks up with her boyfriend, Michael talks him into asking her to a play. She agrees, but the date doesn’t go well. On their way to the play, Stanley hits Phil, a homeless guy. They take him to an ATM machine and give him $200, then to the hospital, but Phil won’t leave them alone. He’s convinced he can help Stanley get in good with Diana. The go to the play and out to dinner, with Phil tagging along. When Diana’s boyfriend shows up and makes a scene, Phil intervenes. Diana is starting to fall for Stanley when they get in a squabble over how to deal with Phil. But Phil comes to the rescue one more time, pretending to attack Diana so that Stanley can be a hero. Diana and Stanley end up together and then we find out who Phil is — he runs a regular scam where he gets hit by people in their cars and takes money from them. But for this one night, he decided to help out instead.
It was kind of clever, but not clever enough to be good. There’s no way a girl like Diana would fall for a nerd like Stanley. I gave it 5. It wasn’t even good enough to be released in theaters in the U.S.
