Review - Up in Arms
Danny Weems is a hypochondriac who works at a hospital so he can be close to doctors. Nurse Virginia Merrill is in love with Danny, but he’s in love with Mary. Danny introduces Mary to his roommate Joe, and Joe and Mary fall in love with each other but hide the fact from Danny because they don’t want to hurt his feelings.
Danny and Joe are drafted. When their unit goes overseas, Danny arranges to see Mary one last time. When the MPs approach, she hides in a truck that is loaded on the ship. There’s a lot of silliness while Danny tries to hide Mary from the officers. When it all sorts itself out, Mary and Joe are engaged and Danny knows about it. He’s in the brig on the island they’re posted to.
A group of 20 Japanese land on the island and break Danny out of jail to get information from him. With a great deal of silliness that makes a great deal of fun of our enemies at the time, Danny captures all 20 Japanese and is a hero. He also realizes he loves Virginia.
Silly, Dinah Shore wasn’t nearly as pretty when she was younger as she was later in life. Danny Kaye was Danny Kaye.I suppose the movie provided some entertainment to the troops when it was shown to them overseas, but it was totally forgettable otherwise.
