Description:Ann Sutton (Gene Tierney) is the wife of a prominant psychoanalyst who has kleptomania. She is caught stealing jewelry and is rescued by David Korvo (Jose Ferrer). He helps her cover up her crime and uses hypnosis to get her past her guilt, but then he gains a hold over her and frames her for a murder of a woman who wants back the money he stole from her. Ann's husband and a detective aren't sure who to believe when Ann says she can't remember anything. Korvo has an alibi — he's in the hospital after gall bladder surgery. But they finally piece together what happened. Korvo used self hypnosis to get out of the hospital and kill the woman. He tries it again when Ann's husband gets to close, but in the final confrontation, he dies of blood loss. Ann is cleared.

Review - Whirlpool

Pretty silly, really. Several times, a character stopped talking for no reason except that to say more would have ruined the suspense of the movie. The self-hypnosis bit was stupid, and the confrontation at the end was goofy. Korvo had no reason to go back to the house where he committed the murder except to destroy the evidence on the records of the victims sessions with Ann's husband. But instead of destroying them, Korvo played them on the record player, then made a silly try to escape when he was dying.
