| Description: | During the depression, Jacob is left destitute after his parents' death. He joins a circus as a vet and takes care of Rosie, the elephant. He falls in love with Marlene (Reese Witherspoon) star performer and wife of the cruel owner/ringleader, August. The two try to run off together but are caught. Jacob is beaten. He returns to save Marlene just as other performers, angry with August, let all the animals loose in the middle of a show. August tries to kill Marlene, but Rosie picks up a stake and kills him. Jacob and Marlene marry. |
