Description:Sylvia Scarlett (Katharine Hepburn) escapes from France to England with her father Henry (Edmund Gwenn) who has embezzled a large sum of money. For some reason, Sylvia disguises herself as a boy names Sylvester. They meet con man Jimmy Monkley (Cary Grant) and the three team up with a woman named Maude on a traveling show. Henry falls for the much-younger Maude so she runs out. Sylvia meets the wealthy Michael Fane (Brian Aherne) and falls for him. She goes to his house dressed as a girl. Meanwhile, Jimmy takes off with Michael's girlfriend. Michael and Sylvia chase them and finally catch up, but by that time they've fallen in love with each other and decide to stay together.

Review - Sylvia Scarlett

If that all sounds confusing and stupid, I've done an excellent job of describing it. It was an awful movie with a ridiculous plot and terrible acting. Katharine Hepburn manages to be a disturbingly masculine woman when playing a female and a disturbingly feminine boy when playing a male. At every point in this film she was overacting horribly. She has neither looks nor talent and I have no idea how she forged a career and won four Oscars.
