| Description: | Astronomers discover two planets heading rapidly toward earth. The first one will pass close by and cause all sorts of disasters. The second one will collide and destroy the planet. A group of scientists band together to make a spacecraft that will take 40 people to the first planet. Pilot Dave Randall (Richard Derr) falls in love with Joyce (Barbara Rush), the daughter of Dr. Hedron, the head astronomer. Her father gives Dave a seat on the airplane, but Dave doesn't think he's qualified. But Joyce's old boyfriend, a doctor nobly convinces Dave that he's needed as co-pilot. At the last minute, those not going attempt to rush the craft and get aboard, but Dr. Hedron sacrifices himself—and the wheelchair-bound, selfish millionaire who funded the airship in exchange for going—to stop the mob and to allow a young couple to join the survivors. They manage to land on the planet, find the air breathable, and open the door to discover a lovely green planet. |
