Description:A serial in several chapters, many available on YouTube. I watched two episodes.

When Pauline's step-father dies, a devious servant is left in charge of her inheritance. He tries to kill her in order to get control of the money. In the episodes I saw, the servant tried to send Pauline up in a hot air balloon, drown her in a cellar, and leave her in a burning building. Pauline's fiance, Harry, always manages to save her and the day.

Review - Perils of Pauline, The

This was the rage when it came out in 1914, and (I believe) is even the origin of the term "cliff-hanger." But it falls a little flat for me. The murder attempts are overly elaborate and usually provide several means of escape to an intelligent person. When they fail, the bad guys try to shoot Pauline and Harry was they escape, which causes me to wonder why they don't just shoot them to begin with. Not as exciting, I suppose.
