Description:Connor (Russell Crowe) is an Australian farmer whose three sons never make it home from Gallipoli. When his wife drowns herself because of her grief, Connor determines to go to Turkey and find his sons. A small boy named Orhan leads Connor to an inn in Istanbul run by his mother Ayshe (Olga Kurylenko) who was widowed by the war. She resents Connor at first, but he and Orhan become friends. Connor is told he can't travel to Gallipoli but he hires a fisherman and goes anyway. A British graves detail is looking for bodies with the help of Major Hasan of the Turkish Army. Annoyed by Connor at first, the British Colonel and the Turkish Major both come to respect him because of his obvious love for his sons. Connor finds two of them and sees them buried. He returns to Istanbul where he and Ayshe become closer. Her brother-in-law is pressuring her to become his second wife but she resists. Connor finds out his third son was taken prisoner. Major Hasan and some men head to northern Turkey to fight the Greeks and Connor goes along. Their train is ambushed and all are killed but Connor and Hasan. They escape and find a village where Connor's son lives. He didn't come home out of shame for not taking care of his two brothers. Connor refuses to leave without him and the two men return to Istanbul. The movie ends with an obvious love connection between Connor and Ayshe.

Review - Water Diviner, The

Sad. Definitely shows the pointless cruelty of war and how each person's view depends on his perspective. Crowe does a good job of showing the love of a father for his sons. The love story with Olga Kurylenko seemed a bit like it belonged in a different movie, but it worked for me too.
