| Description: | Commander Paul Stevenson (Edmond O'Brien) is a by-the-book submarine officer during WWII. He's tasked with taking Lieutenant Kenneth Braden (James Garner) to a Japanese-held island to steal radio codes. Stevenson goes against the book and his own orders to take the submarine into a lagoon and wait 15 minutes past the time he promised to leave so Braden could get back, having successfully completed his mission. Before the mission began, Braden asked Sally Johnson (Andra Martin) to marry him. She wouldn't answer, and Braden finds out on the submarine that she is Navy intelligence sent to determine his fitness for the mission. When he returns, Braden finds Sally on the dock waiting for him. |
