Description:Travis McGee (Sam Elliott) goes searching for answers to help a friend recover his boating license. The friend was drunk the night Lawless, a wealthy man fell overboard. McGee discovers that Lawless planned to run away to Mexico with a woman. He had a heart attack and died. Lawless's best friend, Tuckerman, was angry and killed the woman, then buried both their bodies and made up the story about falling overboard. McGee clears up the case and falls for Tuckerman's sister, Gretel (Katharine Ross). The movie was based on the book The Empty Copper Sea.

Elliott was OK as McGee, but not the way I pictured him. Others were miscast, but Ross was great in her role. For some reason, the action was moved to California, and McGee's houseboat was changed to a sailboat.
