| Description: | Shop girl Susan Miller (Gene Tierney) envies the rich people who come through her store, so when two con-men (Laird Cregar and Spring Byington) chose her to be the bait for their cons, she's willing to go along. When they meet John Wheeler (Henry Fonda) looking to buy a yacht, they assume he's rich, set their trap, and take him for $15,000. But Susan falls in love with him, and when she finds out that was all the money he had, she tries to give it back. John doesn't want to take money from her. Meanwhile, John has hired a detective to find the con men. The detective looks for Susan while Susan looks for a way of giving John his money back. But the two con-men aren't willing to sit around and watch Susan give away their money. They force her to break up with John. But the detective figures things out and tells John. He goes to where the trio of cons are and takes Susan away by pretending there's a gun in his pocket. In spite of knowing who and what she is, he still wants to marry her. |
