Description:The Army is concerned about the morale of soldiers at an isolated base in the Arctic. Lt. Vicki Loren (Janet Leigh) comes up with the idea of a lottery, the winner to get the perfect furlough — three weeks in Paris with movie star Sandra Roca (Linda Cristal). Corporal Paul Hodges (Tony Curtis) wheels and deals and wins the furlough. But his reputation as a womanizer is so great that the Army sends Vicki and several other officers and M.P.s to chaperone. Paul has a miserable time in Paris. He's not even allowed to take a walk by himself. Finally, he manages to sneak off with Sandra. They have a picnic and are getting friendly when Sandra reveals that she's secretly married. Paul backs off, and they are just friends. But when Sandra gets sick and it turns out she's pregnant, everyone assumes Paul is the father (which is weird, since they were only on the picnic that afternoon). Anyway, Sandra's agent decides to exploit the situation and have Paul and Sandra marry. But meanwhile, in an attempt to prove to Vicki that nothing happened between him and Sandra, Paul takes her to the same places he took Sandra. By the end of the day, Vicki and Paul are in love. When Vicki finds out Sandra is pregnant, she gets upset and heads for home. Paul follows, assuring her the baby isn't his. People overhear and assume that Vicki is pregnant too. It all gets sorted out, of course, and Paul and Vicki get married.

Reviews for The Perfect Furlough

Review - Perfect Furlough, The

Leigh and Cristal were lovely, Curtis had some funny facial expressions, and there a couple funny lines, but mostly it was just annoying. (1) It wouldn't raise the morale of the 103 men on the Arctic base that one of them got to spend time with a movie star. (2) A doctor couldn't tell a woman was pregnant three hours after she had sex, especially not while checking her for a cold. (3) There wasn't nearly time or reason for Vicki to fall so hard for Paul that she would chuck her career and pretend to be pregnant to marry him.

One funny line. An enraged husband goes looking for Curtis because "I just caught him in a room with my wife and she had no clothes on." "Are you sure?" "Of course I'm sure. I've been married to her for five years. I can tell when she has no clothes on."
