Description:Trapper Jules Vincent (Stewart Granger) stops by a Canadian frontier village and picks up a saloon girl (Cyd Charisse). He takes her back to her village, but she loves him and goes with him to his cabin. Along the way, they pick up another trapper who threatens their lives in a rapids. Jules shoots him in self defense, then takes off into the wilderness. Mountie Pedley (Wendell Corey) follows, determined to get his man. He arrests Vincent, but on the way back to civilization, Vincent leads him off the trail. They run out of food, are attacked by bad guys and wolves, and Pedley is injured. He goes mad and becomes unable to take care of himself. Vincent takes pity on him and brings him back to civilization even though it means that he (Vincent) will have to stand trial. Vincent takes Pedley down the same rapids where the trapper was killed. This not only brings back his sanity but convinces Pedley of Vincent's innocence. He testifies for Vincent at the trial and Vincent is acquitted and goes back to the girl.

Reviews for The Wild North

Review - Wild North, The

There's quite a bit here that didn't make much sense. Why did Vincent let the other trapper come along to begin with? The wolf attack was very unconvincing. Pedley's sudden return to sanity mid-rapids was unconvincing. And why did they pick Cyd Charisse to play the Indian girl. I'm mean, she is Cyd Charisse, so there's that, but she mostly stood around with nothing to do and looked like Cyd Charisse in really bad make-up. Wendell Corey was OK in his role but doesn't show much emotion. Granger was good, although his accent was terrible.
