Description:Reporter Burke Devlin (Rock Hudson), in search of a story, is drawn to the Flying Schumanns. Husband Roger (Robert Stack), former WWI ace, is reduced to flying in local air shows. His wife LaVerne (Dorothy Malone), is a parachutist. Their son, Jack, is somewhat neglected. Their mechanic, Jiggs (Jack Carson) is in love with LaVerne. Devlin also falls for LaVerne as he sees how Roger treats her and how he gives all his love and devotion to flying. Roger cracks up his plane and has to borrow one from businessman Matt Ord (Robert Middleton). He sends LaVerne to offer herself in exchange. Devlin steps in and intercedes with Ord, and when Roger realizes how far he was willing to go to get a plane, he "becomes human" and, for the first time, expresses how much he loves his wife. In the race, Roger crashes and dies rather than risk the lives of the people who have run onto the runway. Ord steps in and propositions LaVerne, and she's about to go along with it when Devlin steps in again and rescues her, sending her back to her folks in Iowa but getting a promise from her that she would look him up in time.

Review - Tarnished Angels, The

Pretty soap-operaish, but with interesting characters and genuine suspense. Another actor could have done better with Hudson's role, who, except for one scene at the end when he tells the story of Roger to his editor, spends the whole movie whispering.
