Description:When Corby Lane (Jean Simmons) was a little girl, she needed an operation. The citizens of Progress, Arkansas, banded together to give her parents the needed money. Eighteen years later, Corby, now wealthy, determines to return to the town and pay the people back. She knows a Dr. Sellers organized things, but when she gets to Progress, she learns the doctor has died and his practice has been taken over by his son Robert (Robert Mitchum). Doc and Corby hit it off, and when he finds out what she's up to, he advises against it. But Corby goes ahead and gives everyone in town money. Soon things are out of hand. Nobody in town is satisfied anymore, and thousands of people—many more than the town can handle—are showing up in hopes of getting money of their own. Doc steps in and puts a stop to it—talking sense into the townfolk and sending the new folk back home. He's upset with Corby, but still loves her. When she comes to apologize, he proposes, and she decides to marry him and stay in Progress.

Review - She Couldn't Say No

I liked Mitchum and Simmons' characters. It was all amusing, if ridiculous. Progress was identified as being 58 miles northwest of Little Rock, so not to far from where I live.
