Description:Egyptologist Erica (Lesley-Anne Down) travels to Egypt to do research. She discovers a black market for Egyptian antiquities and witnesses a murder. The rest of the movie involves her wandering around Egypt being followed, attacked, and shot at while a bunch of different men pursue her. She thinks Mageot, a French reporter is trustworthy, and she even falls for Egyptian official Akmen (Frank Lengella). She happens upon a secret tomb hidden beneath Tutankhamen's, where all the black market items are coming from. It turns out that Akmed and his family are the thieves. Pretty much everybody is shot, including Akmed, who confesses that he loves Erica, then caves in the entire tomb on his own head.

Review - Sphinx

To begin with, Down's orange-red hair was so obnoxious and fake that it became the main character. It was impossible to keep track of all the other characters that were following Erica, and all of them turned out to be bad guys (so far as I could tell). There were a lot of shots of Egyptian scenery (if you like that sort of thing), and Down did a lot of screaming and crawling through holes. So far as I could tell, the hole that had to be climbed through to get to the secret tomb was too small to fit anything larger than a suitcase, so how they got the statues and other stuff is a mystery to me.
