Reviews for The Beauty Jungle
Review - Beauty Jungle, The
Slow, tawdry, dated. There really wasn't much to like except Janette Scott herself.

| Description: | While looking for a story at a beach resort in England, reporter Don Mackenzie (Ian Hendry) spots Shirley Freeman (Janette Scott), a typist on holiday with her friends. He asks the girls to pose for some photos, then publishes one of Shirley in her swimsuit. The response is great, and he soon talks her into entering a local beauty contest. She soon has the bug for publicity and begins entering many contests, with Don acting as her agent. She repeated resists his advances, but then decides to give in. But by this time, he's in love and only wants to be with her if she loves him. Their relationship becomes business-only as Shirley rises through the ranks and eventually becomes Miss England. She's sent to the Miss Globe Contest, and wants to win so badly that, when the contest organizer summons her, she sleeps with him. She realizes what the life has done to her when she loses the contest to a South American girl because the sponsor wants to sell their product in that market. Shirley goes back to England despondent, but she's still a celebrity and is asked to judge the contest she first won. When she sees her kid sister as a contestant, she thinks back over all the bad things that happened to her and runs off. Them move ends as she makes eye contact with Don. |
