Description:Gus Lynch has a monopoly on shipping in some random area of the West. He doesn't want the telegraph to go through because, somehow, this will allow the residents to ship cheaper ... He stirs up the Indians, who repeatedly attack the workers on the telegraph line. When a friend of army scout John Trent (John Wayne) is killed, Trent heads out with Corporal Tippy (Frank McHugh) to find the trouble. Local belle, Alice (Marceline Day), overhears Lynch conspiring with the Indians and warns Trent. There's a big showdown at the telegraph camp, but Trent manages to use the telegraph to alert the cavalry who arrive just in time. Trent is promoted and marries Alice.

Review - Telegraph Trail, The

The plot doesn't stand up to much (any) thinking, but everyone seemed to be having a good time. McHugh has some good comedy moments, like when he's drunk and thinking he's killing multiple Indians with one bullet. Day has a bigger role than most women in these movies and actually comes across as smart, spunky, and cute. Wayne was 26 here and looked it.
