Description:Janette (Janette Scott) lives with her high-class, wealthy mother who ignores her and treats her like a child. When Janette's divorced father dies suddenly, she feels like there's nobody who cares about her. Enter Mike (Vernon Gray), son of the local mechanic. They fall in love and spend every moment they can together, but when Janette's mother finds out, she does all she can to break it up and decides to send Janette to Canada. Janette contemplates suicide, but is stopped by a sympathetic teacher. She and Mike decide to elope to Scotland in Mike's small, unreliable car. Everything that can go wrong does — especially after Janette's mother (falsely) claims they stole money. Soon the police, the newspapers, and everyone else in the country is looking for them. Dodging some people and helped along by others, the couple makes their way to the Scottish border before being caught. The agree to go back, but only if they are allowed to continue seeing each other.

Review - Now and Forever

Hard to know what to make of this movie. For one thing, I hardly think a single eloping young couple who "stole" 10 pounds would really be the object of a nation-wide search. Second, while I like Janette Scott, and she was lovely here, why did she keep fainting? And the ending. The agree to go back, but Janette asks Mike to carry her "like a bride" across the bridge into Scotland "just to feel like we made it." While Mike's father and Janette's mother and a herd of smiling cops and reporters look on, Mike carries Janette into Scotland — and then they keep walking as the end credits roll. Am I to think they just kept on and got married after all?
