Description:Police spot a guy lurking about a train full of mines. He gets away but leaves his bag full of bomb-making stuff. They figure he planted an explosive and timed it to go off when it reaches its destination in the shipyard. They divert the train onto a siding, evacuate the local populace, then contact Canadian bomb expert Peter Lyncort (Glenn Ford). Peter's not having a great night—his wife Janine (Anne Vernon) left him because she was bored. Peter goes to the train, and with the help of a railroad police inspector, searches the train and finds the bomb. Meanwhile, Janine has decided to return and the police have found the bomber who had gone the shipyard to see the results of his bomb. They fly him to the train location and cuff him to the train until he admits that there's a second bomb. Peter hops on board and finds it just as it was due to explode, and just as Janine runs up. He tosses the bomb as far from the train as he can, it goes off, and he and Janine wander off arm in arm.

Review - Terror on a Train

Weird movie. Great look at England in the early 1950s, fine acting, good noir photography — but no excitement or suspense. There wasn't a moment when I didn't know exactly what was going to happen—including the discovery of the second bomb. (I knew about that because there were still 24 minutes left in the film and the local residents were returning to their homes.) But question ... if the second bomb could be dealt with simply by throwing it away from the train, why not do that with the first one?
