Description:Lou (Goldie Hawn) helps her husband Clovis (William Atherton) break out of minimum security prison because she wants to go to Sugarland and get her son, who has been put in a foster home, back. They manage to take Slide, a police officer, captive in his car. As they travel across Texas, Captain Tanner (Ben Johnson) and hundreds of other police follow, trying various things to stop the couple without killing Slide. Meanwhile, Slide makes friends with Lou and Clovis and realizes they're just a couple of dumb kids. Captain Tanner makes a deal with the fugitives to let them get to Sugarland unmolested. Meanwhile, the child and his foster parents are taken to a safe place. At the house, Clovis is shot by sharpshooters, and the cops soon catch up with Lou. Slide is rescued safely.

Review - Sugarland Express, The

The characters of Slide and Captain Turner were good, but Hawn and Atherton, as the fugitive couple, were annoyingly stupid. And the idea that hundreds of cop cars would all follow in a single-file line was ridiculous.
